Here's what some of our young musicians have to say....

Mark

My name is Mark. I am 13 years old and I play the bodhran and the drums. I have also just recently taken up the whistle. I have been coming to St. James’ for four years, but I have only been playing for two years. I am currently the Scottish Under-15 bodhran champion. My music teacher is Paddy Campbell for all three instruments. My best friend at the branch is Daniel D, who has also written an article for the website. My big sisters come to Saint James too. It is great fun, so come and join! And that is my story!!

Matthew N

My name is Matthew. I am 11 years of age. I have now been playing the whistle for one and a half years, and I have just recently started playing the piano accordion. The person who teaches me the whistle is Mairi, and my Dad, Eddie, is teaching me the accordion. At Saint James’ you will meet lots of great people. My best friends are Mark and Daniel. Daniel is my big cous ! After we have had our music lessons, the thre of us go and play. Saint James the Great is the best!

Anthony

Hello! My name is Anthony. I am eight years old. I like coming here because I like to be in the band. I play the fiddle and my teacher is Feargus.

Sean James

My name is Sean James. I am 9 years old and I live in the south of Glasgow. I come to the Comhaltas because I really like music and I would like to be a musician like my Dad. I play the whistle and my favourite song is ‘Believe Me’ but I also like the faster dance-tunes. I represent my class on the Pupil Council in school and I won a poetry writing competition. I also like to attend Folk Festivals with my family and to meet other players.

Lauren

Hiya! My name is Lauren G. I am 13 years old and I am in second year at school. I play the violin and have lots of friends here at Saint James. Its lots of fun, so come and join!!

Daniel

Hi! I am Daniel D. I’m age 13 and have been going to Saint James for seven years. I have loads of friends here like Mark and my little cousin Matthew. I have entered many Fleadhs on instruments like the tin whistle, piano accordion, flute and piano, and have won some medals in the band and solo competitions. At the moment I am in the Under 15s band, and our teacher is Paddy Campbell.
